E-mail re-start

June 19th, 2006

The e-mail server requires some patches to be installed. Service will be interrupted for ~ 30 minutes starting around 8:30.

Update: Service has been restored.

Website note

June 5th, 2006

We are working on moving NAMI’s webserver from its old domain (which is being retired) to the new. This has resulted in some access problems which cause the website to ask for a password when someone accesses it. We are working on the problem now and expect it to be resolved shortly.

Update:

Service has been restored to most areas of the website. If you come across an error message of any sort, contact CW Tillman (ctillman@nami.org) and he’ll be able to restore that section quickly.

WHAT HAPPENED: NAMI is retiring its old “access domain” in favor of its new Active Directory system. When the web server was moved to the Active Directory this morning, something went wrong with the file system on the web server and the permissions required for access with the new configuration were not set. This is why you were getting password requests. Worse still, when I examined the files in question they displayed the proper permissions. It was only when our consultants tried to explicitly set the permissions that the error revealed itself.

The procedure is to manually take ownership of a file, then manually re-set the permissions. It usually only takes a few seconds. CW and I have re-set ever problematic instance we could find, but it’s a big website and there may be corners we have missed. Again, if you encounter an error let CW Tillman know where it happened and he should be able to restore service very quickly.

We are in the process of ordering a brand-new computer for the website, which should arrive in a few days and be put in place perhaps as early as next week. This will permanently solve the problem.

TASS update

May 30th, 2006

TASS connectivity to the NAMI office has been restored. However, data from mid-morning Monday, May 22 through Wednesday, May 24 has been lost and will need to be re-entered. Website functionality has also been restored.

Webmembership is still down at this time, but the vendor responsible (Avectra) is working on the problem right now and we expect its functionality to be restored very soon. Data entered via webmembership on Monday, May 22 should be checked and re-entered if required. Data entered on Tuesday and Wednesday via webmembership has been lost and will need to be re-entered.

Update: NAMI’s webmembership system is now back on-line and functioning correctly.

TASS database down

May 24th, 2006

The server that hosts the TASS database has experienced a hardware failure and is down at this time. A replacement part has been ordered and should arrive tomorrow morning (5-25-2006). If the replacement part can simply be “dropped in”, service should be restored within an hour of the part’s arrival. However, if the system must be restored from backup the repair will take an additional 24 hours. The failure will affect TASS, webmembership, and any public website functions which rely on TASS. All other network services will be unaffected.

Please submit a ticket to support@nami.org if you have any questions.

Mailgroup system down

May 15th, 2006

Due to a failed upgrade attempt, NAMI’s mail group system is down.
Messages sent to it will bounce with an error message. We currently have a support call in to the developers and
are expecting a fix momentarily.

Update: service has been restored.

Internet provider network maintenance

April 27th, 2006

NAMI’s internet provider will be performing network maintenance from 3 - 7 am EDT on 5-1-2006. Expected downtime is 1 hour. NAMI’s network will be unavailable to the outside world during this time. In-office connections will not be affected. Please submit any questions to support@nami.org.

Network Service 4-7-2006

April 6th, 2006

NAMI will be installing a new T-1 internet connection line to the office at noon on Friday, April 7, 2006. Installation is expected to take one hour. *ALL* NAMI network resources (including this site) will be inaccessible during the installation.

4-7-2006 UPDATE: To minimize disruption with office business, NAMI’s new T-1 line was brought on-line at 8 am today. There will therefore be no service interruption at noon.

Network performance problems

March 2nd, 2006

Also due to the traffic generated by the State Relations report, access to *all* NAMI resources will be slow and sometimes intermittent. Things should improve in a day or two.

Web site access

March 2nd, 2006

Due to traffic generated by State Ratings news, web site access may be intermittent today.

Spotty service today

February 15th, 2006

The e-mail server was accidentally re-started this afternoon and did not start back up cleanly. It took some time to sort everything out, but it all seems to be working again now. If you continue to experience e-mail related problems after the time on this post, submit a ticket at the support site for further assistance.
