Planned Network Maintenance

November 16th, 2006

NAMI’s internet provider, Cogent Communications, has scheduled maintenance on one of NAMI’s internet connections. On 11-20-2006, starting at 3 am and ending at 7 am, connectivity from the outside world to NAMI (and visa-versa) may be interrupted for brief periods of time. The interruptions are expected to lass less than 1.5 hours total. However, due to the complexity of the work, our downtime may be longer.

Blackberry users should note this may affect your ability to receive e-mail on your device. If you experience problems on Monday morning, contact Danya for assistance.

Changes to spam filter

November 13th, 2006

In an attempt to combat the growing levels of spam being transmitted to NAMI addresses, we have implemented several new “rule sets” designed to trap the newer, more sophisticated spam messages which our filters have not been marking properly to-date. There is a very small chance that these new rules may catch legitimate mail (known as “ham” in the filter industry). NAMI e-mail users are therefore advised to please be sure to check your local spam arrangements* to ensure no new “false positives” are generated. If you do see an increase in false positives, please report it to support@nami.org so we may take action accordingly.

* Users whose mailers have been configured by the NAMI National IT department should check the JUNK E-MAIL folder regularly, and empty it at least once a week (empty it now if you haven’t recently). Other users should contact their local IT contacts for advice or send a note to support@nami.org for further assistance. Scheduled network downtime

October 30th, 2006

At 8 am tomorrow, October 31, as part of required network maintenance we will be re-starting the e-mail and file servers. Each system requires about 10 minutes to reboot, and the systems must be restarted sequentially to ensure a smooth resumption of service. As a result, e-mail will go out of service from approximately 8 am to 8:10 am EST, and file and print services will go out of service from approximately 8:10 to 8:20 am EST. Service should be restored to both systems after that.

Please send e-mail to support@nami.org if you have any questions.

Web site problems

September 18th, 2006

We are experiencing performance problems with the NAMI Web site this morning, and are working to resolve them. In the meantime, you may find the site slow or unresponsive.

Update: The Web site has returned to normal functioning. If you encounter any problems, please let me know.

Thanks for your patience.

Web site upgrade II

August 28th, 2006

As part of NAMI’s ongoing system improvements, on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 29th and 30th, from 8 am to 9:30 am Eastern Daylight Time, the NAMI Web site and NAMI state and affiliate microsites will be offline for a hardware upgrade. During this time, these sites will be inaccessible or sporadically accessible.

We regret any inconvenience this may cause. This upgrade will ensure we are better able to accommodate the steadily growing traffic to these sites.

UPDATE: All work has been completed and service has been restored. If you experience any problems please contact the web site team at webteam@nami.org

Webmembership down for maintenance

August 16th, 2006

Yesterday morning (8-15-2006) it was discovered that the webmembership computer had suffered a non-critical hardware failure. To fully diagnose the issue and order replacement parts, the webmembership system will be taken offline from 8 am to 9 am today, 8-16-2006. Once the replacement parts arrive, webmembership will be taken off-line again for installation. An announcement will be made of this time in a later message.

Please contact the webmembership team if you have further questions.

Network Mainetnance complete, webmembership difficulty

July 22nd, 2006

All windows updates to NAMI servers have been completed. However, the webmembership system has not rebooted cleanly. It will be down until a staff member can check the server itself in the NAMI office. Assuming no serious problem has triggered this failure, service should be restored some time after 11:00 am.

Update: Webmembership service has been restored.
